I have lived in many places along the years, but the Algarve holds a special place in my heart. I love this region, and I love living in Lagos. Lagos is a town that has embraced me and welcomed me with open arms - a town that I have made my own since December 2009.

I first visited this fantastic place more than 30 years ago, when my own mother selected the Algarve as a relocation destination. Like her, I fell in love with its people, its beaches, and its nature.

For me, the Algarve has always equated to paradise, and was always my second home.

During the past seven years, I experienced the Algarve as a tourist (visitor), as a resident, and as an activist – all experiences once again reinforced the relationship that started in the 70’s - a love relationship that has withstood the length of time.

I have seen its many changes over the years, some bad - some good!

I saw the Algarve transform itself over the years, and experience its own growing pains … but you know what? Its people have remained constant in their hospitality and welcoming. And at the end of the day, it is people that will make your experiences memorable.

I love the small town living, where you get to know many local residents and get to interact with many visitors. As far as safety is concerned, the Algarve from west to east is still a fairly safe place to call your own.

People come to the Algarve for many reasons, but the most common, is to enjoy its beaches and sunny weather. But, there is so much more to see and experience.

I dare you to go out and explore all that the Algarve has to offer. Be her friend … because she has already befriended you. But be warned, once you really get to know the Algarve, you may find yourself, just like me, developing a long-term loving relationship with it, and will visit year after year.

The Algarve may even entice you to join its amazing population and you may find yourself in a position like mine, where I went from being an occasional visitor, to a seasoned tourist to a long-term resident - and I am loving every moment of it.
