It is autumn, and Christmas is fast approaching. It is a time during which we get filled with a real sense of wonder, and you have to agree that looking forward to Christmas is a wonderful experience. The run-up to Christmas, is filled with delicious sights, scents, and traditions.
With all of this fun it makes sense that people want to celebrate. So why not kick off your own holiday season by throwing a Christmas tree trimming party?
Once you have your guest list you will want to set out to complete your invitations. You can send out a variety of invitations, but no matter what you decide to do you should try to incorporate them into the theme of decorating a Christmas tree.
So an invitation in the shape of a tree or an ornament would be perfect. Let your guests know the details of the event (where, when, how long, etc.) and provide them with a number to reach you at in case they have questions.
Now you want to think about what type of refreshments you are going to want to serve at your event. You may want to integrate some festive food choices. Keep in mind that throughout most of the party your guests are going to be up decorating the Christmas tree so you will want to have food that is easy for them to grab and go.
Christmas cookies are an obvious choice, but do not forget about some savory options.
You do not need to get too fancy with this, but definitely you can have some fun. You could for example use some of the traditional Portuguese finger snacks, like "pasteis de Bacalhau" (Cod fish cookies), Rissois de Camarão (Prawn cakes), and even add a platter or two of fruit and raw vegs. Some cheese and wine. The choice is endless.
You will also want to think about drinks for your event. It is always a good idea to have a selection of cool drinks, beer and wine for your guests. Additionally, since it is the holidays think about setting out some sparking wine, coffee, and tea and even hot chocolate.
Of course for any tree trimming party you are going to need a basic Christmas tree.
This tree should be a small pine tree, which you can buy at any of our local garden centers. At some of them, you will even be able to buy many of the Christmas tree decorations too. A good idea, is to have your Christmas tree already in a pot, and placed in its rightful area of your lounge.
Have a table or two set up with your ornaments laid out ready to be hung up. This makes it easy for your guests to see what they have to work with.
Again, the holidays make it easy for you because you can simply play seasonal music in the background to get everyone into the holiday spirit. Or, if you have any music instrument, or if your guest do, you can always get them to add the cheer to the party by playing while you all participate by singing along. Lastly, you will want to think about a way to thank your guests for their holiday help.
Party favors are an excellent way to let them know that you appreciated them joining you. Giving each guest their own Christmas ornament is a perfect way to send them home with a little bit of their own Christmas spirit in their hand, and a memory attached that they will think of every year that they see that ornament on their own Christmas tree.
