There was no doubt that we were really looking forward to opening our first charity shop in the Algarve. The shop decor has been designed as a stylish charity shop filled with some very interesting, as well as many useful items. We are sure that they will all find a welcome and loving new home in the future whether bought by one of our supporters, or received as a gift by someone in need.
As we progress, locals can help this latest project of our association get off to a flying start by donating items they no longer need. They can drop them directly at our offices in Lagos, at our shop in Portimão or by appointment at our warehouse in Barão de São João. Or we can organize for its collection. Just talk to us.
The quality of the furniture and other goods on offer, the flexible visiting hours, and ample parking near by, will make both the shop and the warehouse a great staple for our supporters and our beneficiaries in the Algarve.
The shop in Portimão will be a great place for communities across the Algarve to come together and support this local charity that has for the past 5-years been keeping the oil and gas exploration platforms away from our ocean and away from our land – and we will continue to campaign against any proposal or action that will have a negative impact on our economy, on our health, on our natural environments, and on our way of life.
There is a fairly large parking area within less than 200 meters walking distance from the shop opposite Pingo Doce's shop, thus removing the stress of finding a parking space! As we all know parking is at a premium in the Algarve. If you are dropping goods, we are now negotiating with Portimão council to give us two loading and offloading bays right opposite the shop. (This is to be used ONLY for this purpose and not for extended periods of parking)
It is hoped that in time the project will also create jobs in local communities and be a platform for artisans to sell their own wares for example, as well as assist in skills development and the empowerment of unemployed individuals. We want to see the community uplifted wherever possible ... and all of us have a role to make it happen.
The charity collects pre-loved goods, clothing, furniture in good condition, electrical goods, etc ... from private individuals for re-sale at a reduced cost to the general public, or to be given for free to families|individuals in need. We will also collect clothes, table and gift ware, toys and games, books, DVDs and CDs.
We are willing to consider donations of all sorts of goods. Our main focus revolves around Furniture, White Goods, Clothes, Beds and all the charity shop staples - books, clothes, bric-a-brac etc. But we will consider almost anything with some value that we can save from landfill or incineration. If you have something that you think we might be interested in please give us a call and let's discuss it.
All donations be they cash or goods are gratefully received. In return you can be assured that you are helping other people and the environment.
